My Judge and Jury: Convicted For My Differences

"Sticks and stones could have broken my bones: But words nearly destroyed me!

From elementary school to high school, during puberty, and my confusing teenage years I... just wanted a way to escape the pain.."

Jason A. Dingus, author of My Judge and Jury: Convicted For My Differences (Candalyse Publishing, 2008), is an inspiration to many. He possesses the strength of character that many, much older than he is, only wish they had.

Perhaps, it was the constant verbal and physical abuse suffered at the hands of small town folk who refused to accept his differences. Or, maybe his strength comes from his strong desire to show others that we are all the same in reality and we must accept those who appear different.

No matter how Jason obtained his inner strength, he draws from his life experiences to compile a powerful book of poetry that chronicles his life.

The Age Of Innocence

"From the heart of a child came feelings that, at the time, brought shame. There were things, emotions, confusing thoughts that constantly flooded my mind and soon came to have undesirable effects on my family. How could a childhood be so difficult? What would happen if anyone found out?

Why did I have to bear all of this alone?"

In chapter one of twenty-five-year old Jason's book, he candidly, poignantly, and powerfully addresses the issues that haunted his childhood which nearly led to suicide. Frustrations led to emotional pain, the darkness of addiction, and the hopelessness of depression.

Then the epiphany: a powerful realization that in order for others to accept him, he must accept - and love - himself first.

My Judge and Jury: Convicted For My Differences...

promises to inspire others who may be going through similar struggles to find themselves through faith, self-love, determination and self-acceptance.

http://candalyse.wordpress.com/2008/04/28/jason-a-dingus/

by Miriam L. Martin was born in Wise, Virginia, the fifth of six children to Albert and Christene Mullins. Many people were amazed whenever she would tell them that she truly was a "coal miner's daughter".
Her mother was dedicated and devoted to raising six children when money was tight and times were hard. Her home was in a little town called Pound, Virginia.... a place where the population was a little over a thousand people. Mostly known for the historical "Red Fox Trail" which weaved a tale of the 'Killing Rock' and the ambush that brought murder to a small town, Melissa attended Pound High School.

One of the greatest influences on her writing was her high school English teacher, Betty Carter who taught every student to be the best that she could be. After high school Melissa was married and had two wonderful children, Brad and David. They taught her so much about living and loving and became her greatest inspirations in life.

Brad is almost 18 now and David will soon be 15. Now living in, Dodge City, Kansas with her new husband Kenneth. they own and operate The Martin Family Daycare. Melissa likes to think that they are making a difference in the lives of the children they take care of.

As for her writing.... Melissa feels as if she has been doing it her whole life. She literally keeps a pen and pad by her bedside every night because she finds that inspiration can come at very odd hours. Melissa writes from the heart and from past experiences.

"My writing is a gift from God and He has given me the strength to keep faith in the face of hardship."

- Melissa

- Title: Trapped In My Pen
- Author: Melissa R.
Kasey: From a Butterfly to An Angel

On the evening of March 3, 2001, Rebecca Didier's life was changed in the most profound way. As so it was with her 22 year-old daughter, Kasey. On that night, an automobile accident left Kasey a quadriplegic. Little did Rebecca know that she would represent the voice and illustrate the resolve of her daughter's will to survive in a remarkable book titled, Kasey: From a Butterfly to an Angel.

- entire article written by Fran Briggs

The publication depicts a remarkable story of a young lady's journey back home, and the epitome of a Mother's love. The innumerable daily decisions and the execution of every task, were made as the result of both mother and daughter's unwavering faith in God. Kasey's valiant hold on life gave new meaning to Karl Marx's quote: "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs."

Recognizing the need to encourage paraplegics and quadriplegics around the world, Rebecca Didier has a special outreach to this population. What's abundantly clear is that, Kasey: From a Butterfly to an Angel serves as inspiration to both the 'abled' and 'differently abled.'

Writing this unique and captivating read had to be a tremendous undertaking. Still, the author's rise to the call to respond has enabled her to communicate authentically, ingeniously, tirelessly and effectively. Kasey: From a Butterfly to an Angel is a tribute to her daughter's entire life, and her last 21 months in particular. Look at this date, my child was only twenty-two years old. Where she lived, what she did, who she was is contained in that dash.

The important thing to know is that at the end of her life she came to know Jesus. She was relying on Him and witnessing for Him, so she made her short life count...For all eternity. What will your dash represent? Make your life count. Let Jesus show you the way to his father.

Kasey, your dash of life December 4, 1979 - November 27, 2002 has so much meaning. We all were sent to earth by Jesus to do his will. God sent you from heaven to earth into my life and deep into my heart, then you journeyed back to heaven with your spirit and soul into your heavenly Father's arms. I will make my journey here on earth as meaningful as yours, so my soul can Journey back to heaven to be with Jesus and you.
Love, Mom"
-Rebecca Didier

Embracing Candace Anthology Raises Funds for Surgery

BETHEL, NY- June 18, 2007- Author/poet Miriam L. Jacobs has recently published an anthology dedicated to raise awareness to a disorder that her eldest granddaughter was born with. Giant Congenital Nevus

Her granddaughter, Candace, who celebrates her 8th birthday today, June 18, was born with Giant Congenital Nevus. The delivery room fell silent on that notable date in 1999. Even the delivering doctor did not know what was covering two-thirds of the tiny baby's face.

After some research, Mrs. Jacobs determined that the public at large needed to be educated and has written numerous editorials and articles to this end sharing about this potentially malignant, socially unacceptable skin condition.

In May 2007, published through Lulu.com, Mrs. Jacobs wrote, My Name is Not Monkey Girl, to help promote tolerance and compassion for children who are born with physical differences who are often the victims of stares, finger pointing, taunts, whispering and name calling.

The title of this inspirational children's story is significant in that one youngster called Candace a monkey girl while Candace attempted to play with her.

According to the author, "I decided then and there that parents need to educate their children on how to be tolerant of others who look different from them! I knew that I would is a rare skin disorder which affects hundreds of babies each year, yet few people have ever heard of it. someday write a book called, My Name is Not Monkey Girl, and I thank God for giving me the strength and wherewithal to do it!"
